A Japanese ivory carving of Kwannon

£400 - £600 £950

A Japanese ivory carving of Kwannon, standing holding a lotus blossom in her left hand, a small figure of a seated Buddha in her head dress, 20th century, 32cm. It is unusual to see Kwannon with obvious male characteristics, harking back to pre-12th century when Guanyin (Kwannon) was usually depicted as a man.
