A Japanese armorial soup plate
A Japanese armorial soup plate, decorated with a central quartered shield on a ground decorated with gilt flowers and foliage, late 17th century, 22.5cm.
Recent research shows that the arms may not be Portugese as previously published in Soame Jenyn's Japanese Porcelain, but Dutch and those of the Van der Meyden family as published in Memoreij Boek van Wapenen of Evert van Well.
