A rare Martin Brothers earthenware bird jar and cover modelled with broad beak and upright pose, glazed in shades of ochre incised R W Martin & Bros, London & Southall to head and base 28cm. high. The Martin brothers experimented with modelling in earthenware for a short time in the 1890's and examples are uncommon. This example came from Elizabeth Martin's descendants. Elizabeth martin married Robert Wallace Martin in 1873.
