An English enamel snuff box c.1790
An English enamel snuff box c.1790, the oval form painted with a theatrical portrait of a lady with an elaborate hairstyle, reserved on a pink gingham ground with colourful flower sprays, a little good restoration to the sides, 7.3cm.
The lady depicted is possibly Isabella Mattocks in her role as Nysa in O'Hara's Midas. An anonymous print in the collection of the British Museum bears a marked similarity.
