Two small delftware cylindrical pill jars early 18th century, both painted with winged putti flanking flower stems and large shells above banners inscribed 'P:COCHIÆ', and 'P:BALSAM', the latter with a metal cover, a little chipping, 9.3cm high. (3)

Pilulae Balsamicae were antitussive pills made from Balsam of Peru, saffron and other ingredients. Pilulae Cocciae were purgative pills including aloes, scammony and colocynth.
