A rare commemorative Dixon & Co (Sunderland) lustre jug, c.1810-13, printed in black and hand-coloured with a hot air balloon rising above Napoleon and other figures, titled 'The Ascent of the Aerial Balloon' above an inscription reading 'May the English oak produce the bark to tan the hide of Buonaparte', signed Dixon & Co in the print, the reverse with a view of Sunderland Bridge, beneath the spout with an eight line stanza, picked out in pink lustre, a small amount of restoration, 22.3cm.
