A Laterza maiolica charger, 2nd half 17th century, possibly painted by Angelo Antonio D'Alessandro with a woman seated on a crocodile, after Maerten de Vos (1532-1603), emblematic of Africa, the rim with a continuous border of stylised fruits in yellow, ochre, blue and green, a small repair to the rim, 43.2cm.
The design is taken from a print by Adriaen Collaert (1560-1618), copying Maerten de Vos's Africa from the Four Continents.
