A delftware drug jar 1st half 18th century, painted in blue with a shaped cartouche inscribed 'U:POPULNEUM', surmounted by two birds either side of a fruit basket, some damages, 18.5cm. Ointment of Populeum contained poplar buds and deadly nightshade and was used in the treatment of burns.
