A London drug or ointment jar, c.1740, painted in blue with cherubs holding flowers and flanking a shell, above a banner inscribed 'U: POMATU', crazing and some glaze loss to the rim and foot, 18.2cm.

Pomatum was a thick, oily ointment, usually scented with fruit, used on the skin or hair.
