A rare Weesp coffee cup, c.1769-71, the generous form painted by Louis Victor Gerverot with an exotic bird perched on a low tree, the rim with puce feathered ribbon tied with large green bows, blue crossed swords and dots mark, some gilt wear, 7cm.
Cf. The Rijksmuseum, No. BK-1969-151 for a teabowl and saucer from the same service. Gerverot specialised in painting fantastical birds, having starte at Sèvres in 1764. He worked at a number of factories including Ludwigsburg, Ansbach, Höchst and Frankenthal. He came to work at Weesp in 1769 but the factory closed in 1771.
