A Continental porcelain plate after the Lady Washington States service 19th century, the names of the fifteen states joined by chain link, encircling the initials MW within a gilt starburst above the banner 'Decus et Tutamen Ab Illo', 21.3cm.

The original Chinese porcelain service was presented to Martha Washington by Andreas van Braam Houckgeest of the Dutch East India Company on his arrival in American in 1796.
