An extremely rare Worcester blue and white bough pot c.1757-58

£8,000 - £12,000

An extremely rare Worcester blue and white bough pot c.1757-58, painted perhaps by James Rogers with birds in flight and perched on a tumbledown fence, within rococo moulded panels, the back and rim elaborately scrolled, the top pierced with an arrangement of small holes around a larger opening, 21.5cm across.

The apparently unique pattern on this bough pot shares some elements of composition with The Thrush pattern, and a few other rare bird patterns known on blue and white Worcester porcelain. Although these are often attributed to the hand of James Rogers, there is some academic debate on this issue and many believe that at least one other artist at the factory is responsible for the fine bird decoration produced in the late 1750s.
