A Bristol delftware punchbowl of Jacobite relevance c.1746, painted in blue to the interior with the profile portrait of the Duke of Cumberland, depicted in Classical manner wearing a laurel diadem, inscribed 'D W For Ever', the exterior painted in blue and manganese with four panels containing chickens, a section broken out and cleanly repaired, 26.4cm.
Provenance: acquired from Sotheby's, 10th March 1981, lot 110, formerly in the collection of Louis L Lipski, no. 1247.
DW (or Duke William) was the youngest son of George II and commanded the royalist forces during the Jacobite Uprising, defeating the Stuart rebels at the Battle of Culloden in April 1746.
