An Italian maiolica wet drug or syrup jar 18th century, painted in blue with scrolling grapevine picked out in manganese and yellow, around a scroll inscribed PLANTAGINIS, a small chip to the foot, 21.5cm.
Plantain has a variety of medicinal uses, including as an expectorant and diuretic when taken internally, or for fistulae and ulcers as an external lotion.
