A London delftware drug or apothecary jar, c.1680, painted in blue with two peacocks and leafy branches flanking the haloed head of Apollo, above an oval cartouche inscribed 'E.E.BACCIS.LAUR', above an angel mask and tasselled garlands, a short rim crack, 17.5cm.
Bay Laurel berries were used to promote the appetite, remove blockages, and to stimulate blood flow in the pelvic region.
