A Delft plate c.1700, painted with a Chinese gentleman and a young maiden in an interior beneath a large lamp, the rim with five floral panels on a hatched diaper ground, cipher mark to the underside, 22.4cm.
The design on this plate directly copies a Chinese Kangxi design which depicts a chapter from The Romance of the Western Chamber.
