An Urbino maiolica istoriato dish mid 16th century, painted with the musical contest between Apollo and Marsyas, the former to the left with a lyre, the latter in the centre with an aulos, the crowned figure between them possibly King Midas, to the right Marsyas receiving his comeuppance being tied to a tree by the furious god, titled 'Apolle & Marsias' in blue script to the underside, restored, 25.4cm.
