An unfinished Worcester coffee pot and cover c.1765-70
An unfinished Worcester coffee pot and cover c.1765-70, reserved with large fan panels amidst smaller circular panels on a blue ground, the panels left blank, 21.5cm. (2)
It is believed that an independent decorator purchased a large number of undecorated blue ground wares from the factory c.1770, some of which have come onto the market with simpler decoration than that offered by the factory. It is possible that this was among that purchase and never finished, or that the slight colour difference between the cover and pot meant it was discarded as a second. Either way it is remarkable that it has survived in this unusually plain state.
Paper label for W T Deacon, St Louis.
Provenance: from the collection of Anthony Tuke.
