A large Spode blue and white transferware meat platter 19th century
A large Spode blue and white transferware meat platter 19th century, printed in a pale blue with the Castle pattern, with figures passing through a castled gateway to a bridge beyond, impressed mark, 51cm.
The pattern derives from two aquatints of 1796, 'The Gate of Sebastian' and 'Ponte Molle'. Cf. A W Coysh & R K Henrywood, The Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780-1880, p.73.
