A rare South Staffordshire enamel patch box of military interest, c.1782-83, the oval top printed and coloured with a scene depicting the Great Siege of Gibraltar, titled 'Gibraltar' on a ribbon banner, within a green ropetwist border, raised on a pale blue base, fitted with an internal mirror, a little cracking, 5.3cm.

The Great Siege of Gibraltar took place during the War of the American Revolution and constituted an unsuccessful attempt by France and Spain to capture Gibraltar from the British. At three years, seven months and 12 days, it was the longest siege ever endured by the British Armed Forces.
