A South Staffordshire enamel commemorative...
A South Staffordshire enamel commemorative patch box, c.1798, painted with a Classical maiden, probably Fame, blowing a trumpet and holding a banner inscribed 'Nelson: his fames shall sound the world around', raised on a pale blue base, fitted with an internal mirror, 5cm.
Provenance: from the estate of the late Barry Lock.
This box was probably made to commemorate Nelson's victory at the Battle of the Nile in August 1798.
