A South Staffordshire enamel patch box of naval interest, c.1794, the oval form painted in black with a sea battle within the inscription 'The glorious Victory of Earl Howe On the 1st of June 1794', raised on a green base, fitted with an internal mirror, some restoration, 4.1cm.

Provenance: from the estate of the late Barry Lock.

In the first major naval action of the Revolutionary War, Admiral Lord Howe defeated the Brest fleet of Admiral Villaret-Joyeuse at the Battle of the Glorious 1st June in 1794.
