A rare and early Bear's Grease pot lid, 19th century, of small size, printed with a black bear standing on all fours within the inscription 'Bear's Grease for the Hair', within a continuous loop border, 5.8cm.
Provenance: a private collection from Essex. Acquired BBR, Summer National Auction, 7th July 2018, lot 7. Former catalogue description states the lid was mudlarked from the Thames by a builder working nearby.
