A Sèvres basket (corbeille) from the dessert service presented by Louis XVIII to Edward, Duke of Kent, c.1812, the flared form pierced with interlocking arches over a gilt plaited band, around the base with gilt flowerheads on a green border, stencilled red mark partially lacking, D11 in green, a small rim repair, 18.7cm dia.

From the dessert service presented by Louis XVIII to Edward, Duke of Kent, in 1816. The service of 177 pieces was delivered to the Magasin de Vente on 20th May 1812, where it remained until the return of Louis XVIII from his English exile, when a further 72 plates were added prior to its delivery to the Duke on 18th October 1816. It passed by descent to the Duke's daughter, Queen Victoria, to her daughter, Princess Beatrice, to her son, Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquis of Carisbrooke (1886-1960), and was sold by Christie's London, 8 November 1945, lot 12.
