A Ludwigsburg figure of Artemesia mourning Mausolus c.1770-75, modelled by Beyer, draped in a tied robe and standing beside gilded urn bearing a Greek inscription, with tears coursing down her cheeks and holding a goblet in her right hand, blue monogram mark, 16cm high.
Mausolus was the king of Caria famed for the grand tomb he began to build but never completed. It is the origin of the word 'mausoleum'.
