An English salt-glazed stoneware plaque or roundel, early 18th century, probably Fulham, modelled in relief with a full length portrait of Henrietta Maria of France, wife of Charles I, holding an orb and scpetre, pierced with a suspension hole to the top, 9.5cm.
The deeply Catholic Henrietta Maria was unpopular in Protestant England and was felt to have too much power over her husband. It is possible that, as the mother of James II, this was produced for a Jacobite sympathiser.
