A large Wedgwood black basalt 'Brainstone' vase, the oval bowl with swan-neck handles mounted upon winged sphinxes on a rectangular plinth moulded with a key fret, 'Wedgwood' impressed. Restoration to the swan necks, the cover lacking. 19th century, 32cm. Long.

This vase shape was in production by 1777 and produced intermittently until 1938.
