An oval foot bath, designed by George Bullock, decorated with an orange band of laurel leaves on an ochre ground, unmarked, c.1815-20, probably Staffordshire, 50cm. Cf. C. Wainwright, George Bullock, Cabinet Maker, pp.92, 93 and 94 where other pieces from this chamber set are illustrated. It appears the service was originally designed to be sent to Napoleon for use at Longwood, St. Helena but were not sent out because the decoration was thought too redolent of the victor's laurels.
