the plain bowl (no scratch marks) with moulded rim, on three ribbed legs with wrythen collar, two with historic blacksmith repairs, the handle with open brace and cast with the name and date 'DAVID CARRICK 1677'

Catalogue Note
With regard to personal correspondence from J. S. Hodgkinson FSA, to R. Butler, 18th June 2025, David Carrick is now understood to be the maker of this skillet. He is believed to be the same person noted as a ‘gun-noweller’, Ticehurst, Sussex, where his death is recorded in 1680. Craftsman working in the iron industry in the Weald have been known to have sometimes engaged in allied metalware trades.
