Woolley and Wallis are proud to offer their October Fine Furniture, Clocks and Works of Art auction with a wide selection of objects for sale. Leading the way is a selection of French furniture including a boldly carved Napoleon III mahogany armchair, dating to around 1850 and attributed to the Veuve Meunier, a fine Louis XV kingwood commode by Pierre Roussel and two similar Louis XV commodes. On a slightly smaller scale, a fine and rare damascened and inlaid Spanish casket by Placido Zuloaga is being offered as part of the estate of the late silver dealer Michael Baggott.

Among the English furniture on offer is a fine George III mahogany extending dining table which, while extending to over 3.4m in length, closes down to a much more compact 1.5m. Even more conveniently, the three additional leaves store inside the table’s top. Should a complete dining room be needed, a set of 14 Regency mahogany dining chairs offered earlier in the sale would certainly fit the bill.

For the more esoteric collector, three ‘commemoratives’ form part of a broad ranging selection of works of art. The first is a horn reliquary box and cover from around 1700 with Royal connections. The fine scrolled, cut and gilt paperwork decoration incorporates the initials ‘RMMS’ and the underside of the cover is inscribed ‘Blood & Hair of King James 2d. Blood & Hair of the Queen and Hair of ye Princes'. This is followed by a silhouette pendant Jacobite interest. A silhouette profile portrait bust, believed to be that of ‘Bonnie’ Prince Charlie’, is surrounded by reverse painted foliage with the glass engraved with the work ‘Redeat’, meaning ‘Returns’. The third is a rare George III Anti-Slavery rondel depicting a slave kneeling before Britannia beneath the words ‘Britannia Set Me Free’.
