A rare South West Persian dated tribal carpet

A rare South West Persian dated tribal carpet, with an all over boteh field and with an unusual 'morgh' or chicken border, dated in one corner with the Islamic year '1240' for AD. 1824 but possibly later, 277 x 161cm.

Provenance: Purchased from Lefevre & Partners, London, Rare Persian Carpets and Artefacts, 9th February 1979, lot 17 for £5,800.

By repute from the vendor, a similar carpet can be found in the Topkapi Palace Museum, Istanbul.
