An early 20th century white painted low chair designed by Syrie Maugham, the padded back and seat and squab cushion upholstered in pink fabric, on moulded legs, the back seat rail stamped 'J S', together with a matching modern example, 64.7cm high, 71.5cm wide, 48.5cm deep. (2)
Syrie Maugham was one of the most celebrated female decorators of the 20th century and a chair of this type features in a room designed by her illustrated in P. C. Metcalf ' Syrie Maugham: Staging the glamor', New York, 2010, pp. 57.
