An Anglo-Ceylonese calamander, ebony and ivory workbox, Galle district, the lid inlaid an elephant within a floral rondel, the interior with a lift-out tray fitted with lidded compartments, variously decorated with flowers, tortoiseshell and parquetry bands, with two spools, below are eight further compartments the lids of differing specimen woods, all with turned ivory handles, 2nd half 19th century, 5.25in (13cm) h, 13.75in (34.9cm) w, 9.75in (24.5cm) d.
