A Victorian butcher's shop display model by Fernley, Limehouse, 1880, carved wood and plaster with polychrome decoration, depicting the shop front with produce and the abattoir displayed with figures, with sign above inscribed 'FERNLEY FAMILY BUTCHERS', with plants and four sash windows, a label to the left inscribed 'FERNLEY, MAKER, LIMEHOUSE. E. 1880.', 30.75in (78cm) h, 36in (91.5cm) w, 14.5in (35cm) d, the front with an applied gilt frame. Provenance: The fine model was made by the vendor's great great grandfather and has passed down the family be descent. It was loaned to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green for over thirty where it was on display. It is thought that these models were put in the empty shop window once the meat had been moved to cold storage at the end of the day.
