A late 18th century Quaker spot sampler
A late 18th century Quaker spot sampler, by M.S. 1791, worked in black, brown and green to a linen ground, decorated flowers, crowns, vase and birds, 9.5 x 21.5in (24 x 54.5cm). The initials 'M.S' have been identified to be those of Mary Storrs, who was a pupil at Ackworth School in Pontefract, from 1789 - 1791. Ackworth School was founded as a boarding school for Quaker boys and girls in 1779. Provenance: Mayorcas Ltd, 38 Jermyn Street, London.
