A George III painted satinwood Pembroke table

£600 - £1,000 £800

A George III painted satinwood Pembroke table, probably later decorated, the oval drop-leaf top with kingwood banding and painted with a central group of Venus and two cherubs with doves, with floral borders and angel masks, above a frieze drawer, the base with urns, leaves and flowers on brass caps and leather roller castors, the underside stamped with workman's initials 'IC', 71.3cm high, 94.4 x 79.5cm (open).

The initials 'IC' might relate to Isaac Greenwood who was a cabinet maker for Gillows and made a variety of furniture. In Aug. 1780 he made 'satten wood' Pembroke tables. See Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, volume two, pp.240-242 for a full discussion.
