A rare pair of 18th century brass pew hangings
A rare pair of 18th century brass pew hangings, each engraved with the arms of the North family and with the motto 'ANIMO ET VIDE' and pierced with a suspension hole, 23.8 x 15.5cm. (2)
Provenance: Purchased by the current vendor from Peter Gould.
The shield is one granted to North of Walkeringham, Nottinghamshire and Huddersfield in 1600.
The arms were granted to the Nottinghamshire branch of the North family after one of their
younger generation had left his home territory and risen to
such prominence in London as to be granted a peerage, with a
further generation being elevated to be Earls of Guilford.
