John Sweetman Eiffe. An eight day marine chronometer, the fusee movement with a spring detent escapement, the silvered dial with Roman numerals, with subsidiary dials for seconds and wind up/down, inscribed 'Eiffe London 48 Lombard St. City and South Cresct Bedford Sq', numbered 535, with gilt trident and poker hands, in a brass gimbal and a three tier mahogany and brass mounted case, the lid with a brass plaque inscribed 'C. F. VENN 1903' and with an ivory rondel inscribed 'EIFFE London No. 535', with side carrying handles, the inside of the lid with a printed trade label for 'E. DENT & Co. LTD.' and with typed labels from His Majesty's Service stating that the chronometer is the property of Rev. R. T. Venn and is on loan to the Admiralty, '16th Sep 1941' with a facsimile copy of the Royal Observatory Abstract of Rates, second quarter 19th century, 20.2cm high, 20.7cm wide, 19cm deep.
