A William IV Scottish needlework sampler by Margaret Menzies
A William IV Scottish needlework sampler by Margaret Menzies, worked with a house and castle with a bird in a tree, with scrolling flowers and foliage with a central rose and ribbon tied flowers and a verse, signed 'Margaret Minzies', and with intials 'AM WM' and 'CL' in a moulded gilt and composition frame, 53.5 x 47cm.
By family tradition this sampler was worked by Margaret Menzies born 12th July 1822. The initials could refer to her father Andrew Menzies, her mother, nee Catherine Lindsay and brother William Menzies.
