A French kingwood parquetry and ormolu mounted encrier, by Beurdeley, Paris, in Louis XVI style, with a pair of leaf wrapped and rocaille scrolling arms, with petal drip pans and nozzles, the serpentine base with three inkwells each with a hinged lid decorated with scrolling foliage, two liners lacking, the underside of two feet incised 'B Y', late 19th century, 11.75in (29.8cm) h, 14.75in (37.4cm) w, 10in (25.5cm) d.
Founded in Paris in 1815 Maison Beurdeley was brought to prominence by Louis-Auguste-Alfred Beurdeley (1808-1882) and his son Alfred-Emmanuel-Louis Beurdeley in the second half of the 19th century. They are famous for producing furniture and works of art in the 18th century style and in particular for the quality of their mercurial gilding.
