the brass fusee movement with a split bi-metallic balance to the Earnshaw type escapement, with machined decoration to the backplate, the circular 3 1/2in silvered dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and 56 hour Down/Up dials, inscribed 'Charles Shepherd, Maker to the Royal Navy, 53 Leadenhall St. London' and numbered '1131', with spade hands, the brass bound twin hinged case with a glaze upper section, with side carrying handles, with an ivory makers plaque, the interior with a trade label for 'G. E. Hicks Optician, Adjustor of Iron Ship's Compasses, 16 & 17 Southside Street, Plymouth'
