After the antique. A French bronze of Arrotino the Scythian knife grinder, crouching sharpening a blade on a whetstone, mounted on a Siena marble plinth, late 18th / early 19th century, 33.8cm high, 34.5cm wide, 20.4cm deep.

The Hellenistic-Roman original was discovered in the 16th century in Trastevere, Rome. It found its way into the Medici collections in the 18th century and is now on display in the Tribuna of the Uffizi, Florence.
