After the antique. An early 19th century Grand Tour bronze of Arrotino, crouching sharpening his blade on a whetstone, mounted on a Siena marble plinth and a leaf moulded base, Italian or French, 17.5cm high, 17.4cm wide.
The Hellenistic-Roman original was discovered in the 16th century in Trastevere, Rome. It found its way into the Medici collections in the 18th century and is now on display in the Tribuna of the Uffizi, Florence.
