Chinese School, late 19th century, 'Heartsease sailing off the Singapore coast, inscribed 'Sarawak Steam Gun-Vessel, 'Heartsease'110 Tons.Registered 45 Horse Power, Giles Helyer, Commander', oil on canvas, 17.5 x 23in (44.4 x 58.4cm) and 1. Hand written commission appointing Giles Helyer to hold the position as Commander of 'Heartsease', signed by Charles Brooke, Rajah and dated 1st November 1868. 2. Giles Helyer's Naval sword, by R & W Seagrove, The Hard, Portsea, in leather and brass mounted scabbard. 3. A photograph of Commander Giles Helyer, seated, the verso inscribed 'A.Sachtler In Singapore. 4. Giles Helyer's marriage certificate to Jane Stickland, dated 23rd October 1872 at St Andrew's Cathedral (Church crossed out), Singapore. 5. A copy The Sarawak Gazette, Thursday, January 1st 1874 noting under deaths; On Nov. 28th, at Simanggang Captain Giles Helyer, Commander of H.H's Gunboat "Heartsease." Aged 27 years.
