Day Two of our Autumn Fine Furniture & Collections sale opens with a distinguished private collection of more than 80 lots from a Manor House, where the interiors were designed and supplied by renowned interior designer Guy Goodfellow. The collection offers an elegant and eclectic selection of decorative upholstered furniture, period pieces, lighting and works of art, reflecting a sophisticated approach to country-house interiors.
Among the highlights is a charming pair of chaise longues by Howe of London, upholstered in Guy Goodfellow’s distinctive Fez fabric (lot 318, estimate £800–£1,200). Complementing the furniture is a selection of decorative lamps and period furnishings, together with a fine Bijar carpet (lot 375, estimate £3,000–£5,000), bringing warmth, texture and character to this highly curated collection.
The undoubted highlight of Day Two is lot 470, a recently discovered marble portrait modello of Pope Clement XII by Pietro Bracci, estimated at £5,000–£10,000. Bracci is celebrated as the sculptor responsible for the figures of the Trevi Fountain, and this exceptional marble modello represents a version of the lost bronze sculpture of Clement XII that originally stood in Rome’s Campidoglio. Its recent rediscovery makes this a particularly compelling opportunity for collectors of Italian sculpture, Grand Tour material and works of exceptional historical resonance.
The sale also features a fine collection of Grand Tour objects, including three examples in Giallo antico, together with an evocative micromosaic panel depicting the Colosseum. These pieces capture the enduring fascination of the Grand Tour and the appetite among 18th- and 19th-century travellers for the art, architecture and antiquities of Italy.
Among the other notable offerings is a rare and fine German iron and brass coffre fort (lot 433), estimated at £20,000–£30,000, an impressive example of early European craftsmanship and ingenuity.
The sale concludes with two elegant Howard & Sons sofas (lots 607 and 608), each estimated at £2,000–£3,000, followed by an intriguing private collection of policemen’s truncheons, providing a characterful and unexpected finale to the auction.
