After the antique. A late 19th century bronze Grand Tour figure of the Borghese Gladiator, standing on an ebonised wooden plinth, 28.8cm high.
Although known as the Borghese Gladiator the original marble is in fact based on a fighting warrior and it dates from 100BC. Since its discovery in the early 17th century at Antium, the Borghese Gladiator has been praised as an aesthetic male nude in motion.
