crowned ‘X” of Joseph Austen and Son, Cork, (c.1823-46 ) under base, ‘½ GALLON’ label to upper body front and two verification marks to the inside of the rim, unusually, the verifications are for Glasgow: one a City of Glasgow 'tree' mark, the other the later crowned ‘VR’ over ‘36’
