An Italian mahogany console table and mirror by Peters of Genoa, the rectangular plate within a moulded frame with a carved scroll and foliage frame above a green marble top and two frieze drawers one stamped 'PETERS GENOA', on scroll supports with a fielded panel back and leaf carved scroll feet, 105.5in (268cm) h, 60.5in (153.5cm) w, 29.25in (74cm) d. Henry Thomas Peters (d.1852) was active in Genova around 1830-1850 and was one of the leading cabinet makers of the period. He was appointed cabinet maker to the Court of Savoy and produced furniture for the Palazzo Reale in Genova. Peters produced furniture with the technical accuracy typical of English pieces but adapted it to a late Italian Empire style.
