worked in black silk on a linen ground with verses dedicated to the memory of Mr John Spilsbury, who died on the 4th April 1769 Aged 29 years composed by his 'affectionate brother Mr Thomas Spilsbury and worked by his granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Strafford, in the eleventh year of her age', in a later glazed gilt and ebonised frame

Catalogue Note
Joihn Spilsbury (1739-1769) was a British cartographer and engraver, credited as the inventor of the jigsaw puzzle. His brother Thomas was a painter. l
