An Indian horn and ivory box

An Indian horn and ivory box, decorated with pierced and engraved panels and mounts, the sandalwood interior with four divisions, on carved paw feet, 7.75in (19.5cm) w, two Indian card cases one veneered in tortoiseshell the other in horn and a tortoiseshell tray, 7.5in (19cm) w. A letter accompanies this lot written by Alfred Rogers who gifted the box to a female friend, Miss Adams, the letter is addressed, Rangoon, Burma, 10th July '95 and describes Mr Rogers' disappointment with regards Miss Adams' engagement, a sad story of unrequited love.
